    Hi Everyone, Hi pcWRT,

I like to know whether anyone has a way of blocking Google Images, that is, not just the main images.google.com page but also stop what I’ll call ‘side entry’ via a general web or other search.

Safe search catches MOST inappropriate content but I’m wanting to go a step further and block the whole of Google Image search at night. Hoping to achieve this using the calendars, but I’ll probably start by testing this through the simple blacklisting methodology first.

The main issue I see is, each image search had a very individual URL, meaning there’s no affective way to blacklist it, right?

Needing further help and clarification 🙂

@Dan You might want to put gstatic.com on a calendar.

@support Thanks! This is working, to an extent. I can now see the semi successful result seems to be well publicised in OpenDNS forums also, thanks entirely to your hint.

I would be interested to know though, (and for the sake of fully exploring this topic thread…)
Are you aware of any further steps to eliminate the first handful of results that sneak through?
AND perhaps even those that are displayed after the broken thumbnails are clicked?

    Thanks for your Support!!

@Dan, some of the images come from www.google.com as embedded data. Can’t stop that unless www.google.com itself is stopped.

Hmm, this just in. It seems the Android OS (or at the very least Nexus 5X Android 7.0) uses gstatic to check the availability of internet on Wifi networks. Phones on the network are now diagnosing Wifi as ‘Connected, No Internet’ and reverting to mobile/cell data.

Thoughts? Is there any way to target a more specific part of the gstatic site?

I’ve observed forums mentioning the URL responsible for WiFi check is connectivitycheck.gstatic.com but I have not been able to confirm this in my checks (that is; adding connectivitycheck.gstatic.com to pcWRTs ‘Allowed URLs’)

Try creating a new calendar with connectivitycheck.gstatic.com listed with unlimited time, i.e., full day selected.

    Success! Thanks Guys.
A calendar allowing connectivitycheck.gstatic.com is now keeping Android happy while the gstatic.com is blocked.
Also, I’ll continue to chase a 100% block of Google Images and update this if I stumble upon anything 🙂 however unlikely it may be 😉

Is there a way to block google.com but still be able to use gmail?

You may try to block www.google.com (without the leading http://) instead of google.com. Gmail can be accessed via mail.google.com.
