When I see a device under connected devices, I click on it and give it a name to make it easy to recognize. I notice that all named devices are automatically assigned static IP addresses by pcwrt. First, is that how it has to be, or is that my experience because I am doing something specific? Second, are there any advantages and disadvantages associated with assigning static IP addresses to devices connected to the router?

    it should be DHCP

something I found on the internet

This forum is mainly dead I’ve scanned this forum for bout 5 years and not many people like you have popped up so I’m assuming you are real person or a troll

either way, you can search for a new on the internet or get support to answer the question for you.

@echo Named devices will get static IPs from the router. It is convenient in case you need to use a fixed IP address for a device (e.g., manual configuration of a network printer). We don’t think there’s any downside to doing this. Access Control and logging identifies devices by their MAC addresses.

@bolozinaction The article you mentioned talks about static IP address from your ISP. In general it’s not needed – setting up DDNS is a better solution in most cases.
