I am confused on what images are applicable to my PW-AX1800.

On your Announcements page, are shown what appears to be Release Notes for all the possible firmware updates; but with no actual updated images.

On the Downloads page, are shown the actual images intended for particular hardware models. For my PW-AX1800, the current version is 2.7.6.

    1. Does this mean that other more recent firmware updates listed on the Announcement page (for example v2.7.8, v2.7.9 or v2.8.0) ARE NOT applicable to the PW-AX1800?

    2. If installed into the PW-AX1800, would these images likely brick the router?

    3. Under the Release Notes for v2.8.0, you state it supersedes v2.7.9, v2.7.8 and v2.7.7 and rollback is v2.7.6. Yet as mentioned above, the latest version for the PW-AX1800 is v2.7.6 (as shown in the Downloads page). No where is it shown that any version greater than 2.7.6 is applicable to the PW-AX1800. Also, the latest version of any image for any hardware shown on the Downloads page is v2.7.6. No later versions shown. Is the webpage outdated?

    Thanks for your kind support!

I too am wondering this. The reason is that the author of router security web site suggests that when buying a used router is to update it using USB to ensure there’s no malicious code. Updating over the net could allow said code to bypass the intended update and perpetuate the malware.

I am guessing that the files on the firmware site (mentioned above) are primarily for those that have bought a pcwrt compatible router that wish to install pcwrt for the first time. Presumably those users would then use the alternate and simpler approach to updates from the router pcwrt web page.

    Thanks for your help.

The download page is outdated. We’ll update it to v2.8.0 soon.

Yes, I figured the downloads page was obsolete. Does this mean that firmware versions 2.7.7 through 2.8.0 are safe and may be used on the PW-AX1800?

    Thanks again!

@moonrace Versions 2.7.7 through 2.8.0 are safe. But since 2.8.0 supersedes 2.7.7+, the 2.7.7+ versions are no longer needed (i.e., 2.8.0 is more stable).
