When I log in to the routher via SSH and then conduct any operations there as root user, the network interface skips the VPN configuraiton and hits the ISP gateway directly.

Is there any way to force-use the VPN at the ssh user level?

    Thank you

You’re right. Connections initiated directly from the router do not go through the VPN, but devices connected to the router will use the VPN (if the VLAN the device is connected to is configured to use VPN). Why do you want to work from the router instead of a computer connected to the router?

    For debugging purposes.

Clients have unusual latency spikes/problems when a VPN configuration is applied.

I can’t figure out if the problem is on the router itself, or on the clients.

I could run a simple script or ping monitoring application on the router directly (via SSH)… but it’s not routing through the VPN wg1 (Wireguard) adapter.
