So when I created unchecked some of the boxes creating a separate VLAN, I discovered, somewhat to my surprise, that some devices were getting IP addresses assigned in the 10.159.157.x range. Ahah, they are on separate VLANs so they have to be on separate IP networks. The router, of course, does layer 3 routing between them. SO far so good, but it would have been nice if there was a note on the UI or somewhere in the documentation.

I am reusing WiFi SSIDs and passwords to make things easier for myself and especially the family. I have a printer that has caused grief in the past. This time around I discovered it doesn’t allow the ‘!’ character.

Well, since I have VLANs to spare I figured I would create an SSID on the X1 vlan just for this printer. Well, here’s the problem. As I recall (it has been years), and have more or less confirmed again through experimentation, this printer’s implementation of DHCP is broken. I am pretty sure it would work with a fixed IP address. However, since nothing else is on this VLAN I have no idea what an appropriate range would be.

Yes, tomorrow I will log into this SSID with a computer and look to see what IP address I get. But ti would be really nice if there was a brief explanation, or even a list showing active/inactive and the appropriate VLANs on the config/network screen.

Please share a list of the DHCP networks here, as well as a listing of what addresses are available for fixed IP addresses (though I will name the device and create a fixed IP address that way.

I will cross post this to the feature request section.

Additional comment. Please list acceptable special characters in WiFi passwords. Or, better yet, range change and refuse those that aren’t acceptable.

I uncovered my problem, it wasn’t DHCP. It was the character ‘ in my password. I changed it to an @ and all is working.

I still think it would be nice to know when a new network is created what DHCP pool has been created and the range for DHCP versus static.

    Thanks
