I have been using the PW-AX1800 for a little while, getting closer and closer to what I wanted to achieve but ever since switching to a Fibre service, the internet seems to be dropping several times a day. The connection shows it’s been up but our wireless devices are reporting « no internet ». There is a second AP but this setup has been working very well in the pass. The only change is swapping the AP locations. The Wifi signals are strong, yet still getting « no internet » , then a few minutes later everything is back to normal.

The logs are very limited and don’t show much. Is there a tool that I can run on the PCWRT that can log the Internet connection that are available with OpenWRT?

The devices are also disconnecting from the WiFi on some occasion but not as often as no Internet (they generally have full bars except if they are on 5 ghz then they lose a bar – transfer rates are still in the 400-600 mb). Some are connected to the PCWRT, others to the second AP. This has only started since switching to Fibre and switching the location of each router.

Since this started after you switch ISP, you might want to check with your ISP about Internet outages. Here are some commands that may help you diagnose the problem:

    • ping 1.1.1.1, if you have successful pings, there is Internet connectivity.
    • nslookup www.google.com, if the ping command succeeds but this nslookup fails, then there is a DNS problem.
    • nslookup www.google.com 1.1.1.1 or nslookup www.google.com 8.8.8.8, try with domain service with different DNS servers. But this works only on devices for which Access Control is not enforced on the router. Otherwise the router clamps the DNS to the one selected in Access Control.

Sorry if I wasn’t clear , we didn’t switch ISP, we switched from Cable to Fibre. The Internet would regularly slow down to 1 mb or less, devices would then report no internet. I think my family thought that the device were disconnecting from Wifi but it was probably showing disconnecting from Internet. The router would still show connected. It would be useful to have access to some basic tools from the PCWRT interface (speedtest, ping).

After a lot of troubleshooting including 2 hours today and a couple of factory reset of the ADTRAN, Bell is sending one of their technicians as they finally accepted that the issue isn’t my equipment.
