I’ve been running some tests with the pcWRT. I love the software, it just doesn’t seem to be meeting my expectations. Maybe someone can clear things up for me. I was comparing the wi-fi speeds of the 5GHz frequency, and i’m consistently seeing a 100-200 Mbps difference between the pcWRT and my AT&T BGW320-505 gateway. I’m trying to move away from using the gateway, as I want to setup VLAN’s for my home network. Is there a way I can get speeds closer to the AT&T gateway so my wife doesn’t get mad? My current setup is just pcWRT wired into the BGW with the cat6? cable that came with the pcWRT. I haven’t setup IP passthrough yet (no bridge mode on BGW), so maybe this could be the issue? When running the tests, I did disable the wi-fi on the BGW, just to be thorough. If it’s possible, I was also thinking about just isolating my IoT devices to the pcWRT SSID, and running my “untagged” traffic through the BGW (phones, laptops, etc.) I’m not sure if this would provide the same level of security as a VLAN configuration, though. I’m relatively new to all of this so some In-depth explanation would be helpful. Thanks!

What’s your pcWRT hardware model? What are your actual speeds?

I am getting about 300-400 Mbps with pcWRT PW-AX1800, and 500-600 with BGW320-505. I am paying for 500 Mbps.

Can you set up IP passthrough and see if it makes a difference?
