Hello. I was looking for bandwidth allocation or throttling as well. We have the new updated router but I am sensing some skipping at this point and would like to keep my son under control because at times he’s using three devices at once! I don’t necessarily want to prevent him from doing this but would like to allocate his bandwidth. Thanks!
Hi, after several disconnects, restarts, and resets… it is working now. How frustrating! I can’t quite explain what I did, but I reset the router both using the GUI and the “restore factory default” as well as pushing the reset button on the back of the router… more than once… and unplugging, re-plugging it and the cable modem. Anyway, working. Thank you.
Hello. I did the reset, I set up the wireless, I set up the cloud. I restored the access control. However I do not have internet access and I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. Because I don’t have internet access, I’m replying on my phone but I don’t have a good ability to look up the instructions either. I use Charter Spectrum internet. Can you explain what step I’m missing please? I took photos of all of the setting screens and believe that I have them set up properly as they were before.
I know there is one difference for sure which is that override Mac address was filled out before and it is not filled out now. But when I fill it out and click save, it just disappears after the save as complete.
Oh wow, that’s a really unpleasant thing to have to do. That’s the entire reason that I want to be able to restore settings so that I don’t need to do stuff like that. Is there any other way around this? Very frustrating. I’m going through it again tonight. For some reason I did not get notification of the reply earlier. I will check in again. But the issue continues just as before.
Thanks, my confusion then is that “System Default” refers to what the ISP provides for the search, rather than referring to the “Default Profile” search! That makes sense.
I never discovered any limitation because I had set the adult accounts to use Google, and just assumed everything was working.
It’s fixed now. Thank you.
Hi. I took the steps above but continued to have problems as I tested it. Now, I seem to have figured out one problem, that might be above and beyond this other stuff. While I had OpenDNS Family Shield selected under Parental Controls, Profiles, Default… I had done that correctly, right?
But under each individual profile, it said “System Default”. Well, I figured that meant it was going to mirror the Default Profile. But I guess it wasn’t? So,now under each profile, I selected OpenDNS Family Shield and it is working. (I am using internetbadguys.com to test access.)
So, is that a bug in the software, or did I misunderstand the meaning of “system default” in my settings?
Thanks!
Hello. I’m back. I occasionally switch from blacklisting to whitelisting in order to significantly restrict the internet usage in my home. Even though I have the check box for blocking literal IP addresses on checked, when I switch to whitelisted the VoIP features of Republic Wireless no longer connect. Even with the checkbox for blocking literal IP addresses on checked, does whitelisted essentially block them? Is there anything that you can do in the firmware update that would allow a workaround for this please? Thank you.
Great, thanks! I cycled the cable modem, that didn’t do it, so I cycled it again and then rebooted the pcwrt. Now it’s working. Everything is working! Wow! This is great. Thanks for your help on all these issues; it’s been an interesting run of issues. I think a lot of the problems originated with the first router being somehow defective. TTYL, hopefully I won’t need to though.
OK great. Even more progress. I found a thread on Republic Wireless. https://community.republicwireless.com/thread/29485
I followed the instruction to re-register the phone by opening the Android dialpad and entering * # * # VoIP # * # *
and now it works with parental controls enabled for the profile of the kids phone!
Now just help me on the router connecting directly to the modem, and putting the netgear router in line behind the pcwrt please!
Great news. I got the wifi T-stat connected. I turned off parental controls for that profile, and it works. Phew! We just need to figure out the MotoG phone and we are all connected.
However, I did try to disconnect the Netgear router and plug the pcwrt directly into the Charter Spectrum cable modem, and I didn’t get internet. I assume that something needs to be done to make the pcwrt act as a DNS or some such thing? I do not remember doing any setup to make the pcwrt be secondary behind the netgear though. Can you guide me?
So I guess that’s 2 things to address. THanks!
Good morning. I tested again and confirmed that when parental controls is enabled for the specific user profile, the MotoG phone does not connect. But the newer G4 phone works even when parental controls is enabled for its user profile. Thanks.
OK New info here. My son got a new phone. My younger kids still have the original phone. My posting above applies to the old phone, the Republic Wireless Moto G. WIth parental controls enabled, it does not access Republic Wireless.
However: the new Moto G4 Republic Wireless phone, on a different profile, CAN access Republic Wireless with Parental Controls enabled and the two boxes unchecked. Hmmmm……
Hi. FYI, this problem seems like it may have gone away. I didn’t change anything, but my kids haven’t complained. I still have the pcwrt in line behind the netgear, but actually I’d prefer to move the netgear to another area of the house and have it in line behind the pcwrt. I’ve personally been logged into the netgear, but I’m going to change that for a while here and verify that things are stable. Thank you.
Hello. Jumping back to “reply 754” you asked me to take the following steps.
Let’s take one thing at a time, the phone first.
1. Connect the phone to pcWRT, with parental control disabled for the router (i.e., default factory setting). Are you able to use the phone?
YES.
2. If above is yes, enable parental control for the router. Create a profile and put the phone in the profile. Disable parental control for the profile. Are you able to use the phone?
YES! Yes! This is good news, a little step forward.
3. If above is yes, enable parental control for the profile, uncheck the two checkboxes I mentioned before. Are you able to use the phone?
NO.
Going back to post 748, here is the info I found from Republic Wireless about what ports need to be open. Is there a way to whitelist or open these ports and IPs?
Your Router or ISP must not block outbound traffic (from your phone) destined to the following ports
5090 UDP for call set up
6000-29999 UDP for audio
8883 TCP MQQT (used for Voicemail – MMS – SMS)
While other apps may use other ports. VoIP for our service uses 5090 and 16384 through 16402. That should be all that is needed to support voice.
5090 is for the SIP Signalling to setup and manage the call. and the ports 16384 through 16402 hold the actual audio. All of these ports are UDP not TCP.
Any ideas? Thanks!
I tried the steps again. after a few seconds, no lights come on at all. I’ll be honest. I think this is a defective unit, and I’d like a new one!
Do you have my info from registration, or how should we proceed? Thank you.
