Ok, I changed the channel width on the 2.4 band, and I can now get 4-5 Gbps on the desktop with adblock, safesearch, and access control enforced. Yay! (I saw a suggestion elsewhere to adjust the bandwidth of the computer’s wireless receiver to 40Mhz, but that was not an option on this particular one). The speeds seem to be better on our other 2.4GHz devices, also.

I did make the 5GHz band separate and put the devices with that capability on it. That seems to also be helping, and I’ve been able to put the controls on.

Also, did you mean there was no Internet at all when you enforce Access Control? (that shouldn’t happen)
It would start to load a page and just go blank……or if using the FCC Internet Speed app, it would Fail all tests (or not be able to run them at all).

Other than the 20 vs 40 MHz thing, I’m not sure why it had such interesting performance the first night…..other than maybe some devices were downloading updates? Or maybe DNS cache was an issue, switching from Google DNS to OpenDNS. Yesterday was better than Friday night (except on our older devices), and now with the changes we seem to be up and running. Thanks for your help.

    Thank you.

I tried resetting the router multiple times, holding the button in for 10 seconds or longer. Nothing happens when I release.

I ran an ethernet cable direct from the pcWRT to my computer and it says pcwrt – No Internet. And obviously won’t come up in the browser as the pcWRT address access, nor as the IP address.

    I think it’s toast.

So I don’t think making it an access point will work….it appears to not be working at all. 🙁

That seems to be the case, it does not appear in the list of any of our devices when we try to select wireless internet.

I did try holding the reset button, but it doesn’t seem like that did anything…..

We did the update, and I put her computer on access control again without telling her. I’ve heard no complaint over the last week, so I think you got it! Thanks!!

Yes, I have the latest update.

She is playing Stardew Valley co-op multiplayer. She could not join a game hosted by her friend, I don’t think she tried to host one until after I put her computer on a profile without access control. I did try putting her DNS on Google, but that didn’t help, only turning off the access control worked. We can try some things if you have suggestions or need more information.

We haven’t tried Smash Bros since the update, we can try that for you, also.

Has there been any update on this? My kiddos haven’t played much Smash Bros, but when they do I have to turn off Access Control to the Wii-U. My daughter has also started playing some multiplayer games she’s downloaded from Steam on her laptop, and she cannot log into these unless I turn off Access Control. Now, she is fairly trustworthy (and an adult); however her brother will be wanting this too, so I would like for him to be able to play some games, but still have the Access and Parental Controls on.

We are also having difficulty getting our Wii U to connect through Super Smash Bros. We did add the port forwarding. We do not have any NAT code error messages, it just does not connect. The Wii U has Error code 118-0516

I have it on its own profile, Parental Control enabled, Safe Search, and moderate YouTube. No calendar. The logging is not showing that anything is blocked, despite many times trying to connect while I adjusted settings. I did look at our OpenDNS account, and we tried it while allowing file sharing and another time allowing Proxy. We also tried changing the DNS Server to Google. No luck.

I’m happy to provide logging of what it does go to if that would be helpful.

Ok, I reread what the OP tried, and I turned the Parental Control off the Wii U profile, and it does connect fine. But yeah, I need parental control on it. Thanks for looking into this, I’ll manually turn it on and off Parental Control until you figure out a fix.

Oh, fantastic. I’ll have to test that out!

Whatever was on it, we purchased it in November.

Thanks for the update. When I did ours, it did forget the Key to our wireless. Restoring the backup did not help this, and in fact the back up didn’t have the wireless section at all!! Fortunately, I had backed it up again after the update (before I knew there was a problem) and restoring that brought the Wireless settings back so I could just put our key in again, and all is well.

I greatly appreciate the router, thanks for your continuing work on it.

That was convoluted, but I get it now, and it works, thank you. I’ll attempt to write it out as I understand it for others not understanding how to set up the calendars.

    1. Set up a calendar with no sites listed. Set the times to when you would like the internet on.
    2. Set up a calendar for sites you want restricted during certain times. Set the times to be when you want the listed sited ALLOWED.

For example, I want the internet for the children to be on from 8am to 8pm. I have a blank calendar with those times listed. The internet will not work at all outside of that time period.

During our school hours, I wish to restrict them from YouTube, Amazon, and social media. So I have another calendar I labeled Free Time, and it is set to 8am-9am and 4pm-8pm. The sites listed will ONLY be allowed during the times on the calendar.

The only issue is that once a site is on/open, it will not be cut off until the user changes URL’s. So if my son starts watching a video before 9:00am, it will continue until he clicks a different one. I think it would be possible to force it by setting the ‘On’ calendar to be off briefly, but I am monitoring when we start school and will get them on task ‘manually’.

Now that I understand how to use it, I love this router. Whoo-hoo, timed control….something I was not finding in other such routers. I look forward to seeing further development in the firmware.

It doesn’t seem to work that way.

My calendar time with no sites listed in it allows all the internet (not otherwise blocked on the main profile page). So the times I have listed for that calendar is when the internet is on. The times with no calendar, the internet is off.

The calendar with sites listed will not allow any websites except the sites specifically listed. For example, I included Google.com, so you can search for something, but cannot go to any of the links that come up.

I’m going to include my other issue in another thread.
