Just so I understand your setup, your connections are like this:

    Arris TG1672G
    |
    |----- Linksys
    |----- pcWRT
    |-----
    |-----

When you connect your PC to Linksys and do Shields Up test via the Chrome browser, all ports are reported in stealth mode.

When you connect your PC to pcWRT and do Shields Up test via the Chrome browser, all ports are reported closed, except for the 7 in stealth mode.

I’m thinking that the results should be the same either way, since connections from the WAN side arrive at the Arris gateway first. Unless the Linksys is a DMZ host. Can you check that?

The router identifies the devices by their MAC addresses. So it should not matter whether the device is connected via an extender or directly. Is that not the case?

@plook Release v1.20.1 switched the WAN side ports to “stealth” mode. You should be able to upgrade to this version by clicking the “Check for Updates” button in System settings.

@plook Thanks for the suggestion. We’ll switch to stealth mode in a future update…coming in about a week.

You can see a list of connected devices at the bottom of the Device Status page:
    1. Load the NVG599 Home page by entering http://192.168.1.254 in your Web browser’s location box.
    2. Enter the Device Access Code then click Continue.
    3. You should be able to find the MAC address of the pcWRT router in the Home Network Devices section.

P.S. You probably need the pcWRT IP address in order to identify it. Log on the pcWRT page at http://192.168.10.1, click Status. The IP address is the Address field in the Internet section.

You need to uncheck the “Block literal IP addresses” checkbox for the profile.

The plan is to see if the calendars are effective. If not, we’ll find out why and fix the setup. If yes, then your son might be using some trick to get around it and we need to figure out how to block that.

Calendars should have worked for your 2nd kid’s device also. One way to check is to add one of your own devices to the same profile and see if you are limited by the calendars you’ve set up.

With parental control disabled, open a cmd window. Try these two commands:
    1. nslookup www.playboy.com
    2. nslookup www.playboy.com 208.67.222.222

    What are the outputs?

Is everything OK if you disable parental control?

An update on Calendar cut-off. The calendar will cut off an existing connection, but there might be a delay up to 5 minutes. So if a child is watching a long video on YouTube, he/she can continue to watch the video for whatever is buffered or go past the time limit for up to 5 minutes, whichever is longer.

That happens when the site is blocked or restricted by a Calendar, and the site is accessed via HTTPS. The router tries to display the “blocked” or “not available” page, but the browser insists on HTTPS. Since the router cannot provide a valid certificate for the destination site, the browser complains “connection not secure”.

One example is when you try to access YouTube outside of the time limits set in calendars.

@thepaintedtiger Glad to hear that everything worked out in the end, and thanks for the feedback. What was your firmware version before the upgrade?
