@bunduri Please check that you’re connecting the router like this: pcWRT router WAN port (Blue) -> Technicolor E31T2V1 Ethernet port -> Cable outlet.

    1. Connect your computer to a LAN port on the pcWRT.
    2. Open http://192.168.10.1 in your browser.
    3. Enter your router password to log in.
    4. Do you see an IP address under the Internet section on the Status page?

Maybe the VPN connection wasn’t stable. You can try a different VPN server and see if there’s improvement.

@casino You can use either “all” or “same UTC offset” to choose your timezone. The latter gives you a shorter list to choose from, so it’s more convenient.

You can click “Sync Time with Browser” to set the current time on the router when the router does not have access to the Internet (i.e., when it can’t sync time with an NTP server).

@casino Also, when the problem happens next time, take a look at the Access Logs.

Click on a few links on Facebook or YouTube 10 minutes after they’re supposed to be blocked. Then open the Access Logs page, expand the profile and click on the name of your device (on the left navigation panel), switch to “RAW” mode and inspect the latest entries. Send the screenshots of both Visited and Blocked pages to [email protected]. Thanks!

@casino When we last talked about this, you did not have this problem for a few days. Then you said the problem came back. Were there any changes in between? Did the time on the router match the time on your computer when you had the problem?

You might need to set up port forwarding on the modem/router. Or you can put the pcWRT in the DMZ of the modem/router.

@casino We were not able to reproduce your problem, even with your configuration files. What we did in v2.5.1 was to add a monitor that checks the integrity of the parental control components, and restore the configuration if any error is found.

We can’t claim a true fix for what you were seeing unless we can consistently reproduce your problem. We need your help to identify the situation under which the problem occurs. Have you noticed any patterns?

How is the pcWRT router connected? Is it directly connected to the Internet or behind another router?

@casino Please try again with v2.5.1. Let us know if you still see the problem.

There’s no special setup other than checking the VLANs you need access to. You can ping the destination IP address to confirm connectivity. For SMB shares, use the normal \\<ip-address>\<share-name> path name.

@daarke01 By “wifi drops” did you mean your device got kicked off of the wifi? Or was wifi still connected but no Internet?

@billybob The speed will be reduced when you “Enforce Access Control”, but it should still be more than 50 Mbps overall. However, not all your devices need to have Access Control enforced.

You may create multiple profiles, with “Enforce Access Control” checked for some and unchecked for others. DNS filtering, safe search, black/white listing and ad blocking will remain active even for profiles with “Enforce Access Control” unchecked.

The purpose for the “Enforce Access Control” flag is to block the various ways to bypass Access Control (e.g., via proxies, VPN, DNS over HTTPS etc.), and to enforce an Internet access calendar (i.e., to force shutdown of the Internet) for certain devices. You don’t need to check this flag unless there are attempts to bypass Access Control from some devices.

@buddho72 Are you tunneling all your traffic through an OpenVPN connection? That’s the speed you’ll get if that’s the case. You may want to switch the VPN protocol to IKEv2 or WireGuard if your VPN service supports them. Both will bring your VPN speed up to the 100Mbps range. Normally that’s about the maximum speed you can get from your VPN service, even if you have a 1 Gbps ISP connection and infinite CPU power.

That said, not all your traffic needs to be through a VPN connection. The pcWRT router allows you to tunnel selected VLAN(s) through VPN while leaving other VLAN(s) on your ISP connection. You can utilize your full ISP speed that way.

If you have privacy concerns, you may want to enable DNS over HTTPS on the Internet Settings page.

You should get speed close to 1000. In passthrough mode, the pcWRT router should get a public IP address. Did you check the Internet IP address on the pcWRT router?

If “Enforce Access Control” is checked on the profile, you may want to uncheck the box to see if you get better speed that way.

Also, you might want to compare the “Passthrough Mode” with router mode (i.e., double NAT scenario, the pcWRT gets a private IP address from the AT&T router).
