Great! Now you can try connect the cables and follow the steps in the user’s guide to configure the router. You should be able to see the initial setup pages at http://192.168.10.1 in a browser.
@MomofThreepcWRT OK,let’s take this step-by-step.
1. Disconnect all cables (LAN, WAN, power cord). Router should be off. Keep it off for at least 30 seconds.
2. Connect ONLY the power cable. Wait for about 2 minutes. Which lights are on? Solid or blinking? I’m expecting that SYS should be on (solid). WAN should not be on since no cable is connected.
3. Use a pin or pen tip, press and hold the WPS/Reset button for 10 seconds, then release.
4. Wait for about 20 seconds. Did the all LEDs flash once at the same time? Is the router rebooting?
P.S. in steps 2-4 above, do not disconnect the power cable.
Our box is 10″x11″x1-1/2″. Amazon puts it in their shipping box. I guess the shipping company will repackage after they receive from Amazon.
The current hardware is 2.4Ghz 802.11N, i.e., not dual band. We are working on a dual band device. Originally we were targeting to make it available first quarter this year, but it’s taking longer than we expected. We’ll try to make it available as soon as we can, but we won’t release anything until it’s ready.
The current hardware is OEM, roughly equivalent to the Asus RT-N14U, with 8MB flash and 64MB RAM.
@Lanman666 Sorry for the late update. It’s been more than a few days! We turned on global shipping in Amazon, but still they won’t ship to Canada. There are some limitations based on product category, which is beyond our comprehension at the moment. In the meanwhile, you might want to try some shipping companies, such as borderlinx.com, shipito.com, etc. These companies provide you a US address, which Amazon will ship to, and forward the package to your country.
@mizarcs Right now the only way to buy is through Amazon. If you want it shipped to Italy, you may try some shipping companies that provide you a US address, which Amazon will ship to. The shipping company will then forward the package to Italy.
Take a look at these sites:
https://www.shipito.com/
http://www.borderlinx.com/US/en/
There may be many others. You might want to shop around to see who gives the best deal for Italy. Thanks!
@wwarner It’s taking longer than we were expecting. For now our suggestion is to put your streaming devices on a separate profile and disable parental control for that profile. I’m assuming that other applications don’t consume a lot of bandwidth, but I could be wrong.
@bogboy Please download version v1.20, where this problem is fixed. The steps for upgrading is posted in Announcements. Thanks!
The current version of pcWRT maxes at 50Mbps with parental control on. Without parental control, the max is 100Mbps.
So if all devices in your house go through parental control, you probably won’t reach your ISP’s full potential. If you put kids devices under parental control but disable parental control for your own devices, you can enjoy the full speed, while kids are limited under 50Mbps.
@wwarner It’s out of stock yesterday. Replenishment is on the way and will be available later this week.
@SafeTay Thanks for your feedback. Our tests showed that dnsomatic fails authentication when the password contains either the apostrophe (‘) or the quote (“). In that case, the router reports “Failed to update Dynamic DNS, please check your network connection.”, which is a wrong message. We’ll fix the error message in a future update. We’ll also see if there’s a way to report the error to dnsomatic. It’s worth noting that the authentication bug does not exist in dnsomatic web interface, only the update API.
We’ll also follow up with a long password test. Thanks for your input!
Here are some things to check:
1. Your main router and pcWRT have different SSIDs, right? I’m guessing yes, but asking just to cover all possibilities.
2. Your computer is using DHCP, not static IP address, right?
3. Is your computer connected by wire or via wireless? If you are connected by wire, you might need to disconnect the cable and reconnect to get a new IP address.
4. You may try to renew the IP address. Here’s how on Windows: https://wiki.csuchico.edu/confluence/display/help/Release+and+Renew+an+IP+address+in+Windows+7
5. If everything fails, disconnect pcWRT from the main router, then connect your computer to pcWRT. Do you still get IP address from your main router subnet?
The devices connected to the pcWRT subnet will reach to the Internet in two hops: device -> pcWRT -> main router.
If you have an IP printer connected to the main router, it can be reached by devices on the pcWRT subnet by IP address, for example, 192.168.1.101. However, if you blocked “literal IP address” in the profile, the printer cannot be reached because it’s by IP address. You can either turn off “Block literal IP address” or add a Host name in the System Settings (add a line after the “127.0.0.1 localhost” entry, for example, “192.168.1.101 printer”).
Kid’s devices should get IP addresses from pcWRT instead of the main router. Do the main/slave routers provide separate IP ranges? For example, if the main router has IP addresses in the range 192.168.1.xxx, then the pcWRT should give out IP addresses in the different subnet, for example the default 192.168.10.xxx range.
Thanks for the info. That’s a strange problem. Please send us a copy of your configuration, we’ll investigate further. Here’s how:
1. Login router management console.
2. Click System in the Settings page.
3. In the Backup/Restore Settings section, click the Backup button.
4. Save the file and send to [email protected].
Sorry for the problems and thanks for your patience!
