@stuartandfiona You can set schedules for Internet as a whole or for individual web sites, but there’s no “daily max time” allocation. Due to background activities generated by devices (either PC or smartphone), it is hard for the router account for active Internet usage with accuracy.

The recommended practice is to set up schedules (aka calendars) for Internet access. You can find more details here: https://www.pcwrt.com/2015/12/how-to-set-internet-access-time-limits-in-pcwrt/. When needed, you can temporarily turn off calendar restrictions by clicking the “Pause” button next to Calendars. After the extended time expires, calendar restrictions will be automatically restored.

You may try blocking the ports used by mIRC. Enter the following in the Black List:

Our router has to run as a router so that access control works. You can attach another router in bridge mode to pcWRT, or connect a WiFi extender to it. Access control works for devices behind the bridged router or WiFi extender.

Blocking a URL path is only possible for unencrypted sites, i.e., the URL that starts with http://…, not https://…

For encrypted sites, the router only sees the domain name, not the path following the domain name. Therefore, it cannot block a sub-section of a domain.

That said, you can block translate.googleusercontent.com instead of translate.google.com. That’ll block translation of sites while allowing translation of words.

What is the IP address on your PC? If you are on a Windows computer, you can open a command prompt and type in ipconfig to display the IP address.

To open a command window, press the Window button, enter cmd in the search box and press Enter.

@casino Your port forwarding setup seems right (if port forwarding is needed). Are you blocked from downloading using Vuze? If not, there’s no need to worry about port forwarding.

@casino You are using the device in a profile with Proxy/VPN blocked. You can move the device to a profile without Proxy/VPN block.

If that’s not possible, try adding UDP port 3478 to the White List: add a line in the box like this: “:3478U” (without quotes). If the apps are still blocked, you may add the domain names or IP addresses to the White List.

@gangwang You can block this VPN by adding diltwo.com to the Black List. A lot of VPNs/Proxies are blocked by OpenDNS. But in case a VPN is not blocked, you can add the domain to the Black List.

@gangwang Not exactly sure what you meant. You checked “Block VPN…”, defined a YouTube calendar, but the YouTube calendar didn’t stop YouTube until the time for your default Internet calendar is reached?

Did you check the Internet logs and see what sites were visited during the time YouTube is blocked?

@gangwang If your device and kid’s device are in the same profile, and you can’t access YouTube, he shouldn’t be able to either. If you see him accessing YouTube while you can’t, he’s probably using some technique to bypass the control. He might be using a proxy or VPN. To find out what’s happening, click on the “View Logs” link on the Access Control page. See what sites had been accessed from his device.

If you create a Calendar for YouTube for the time range 6:00pm – 7:00pm, then YouTube will only be available during that time range. If you are watching a YouTube video before 7:00pm, then you’ll be able to watch the video past 7:00pm, for a few more minutes. That is because of content buffering on the device. The video will be stopped after the buffered contents are exhausted.

What you can do with the router is you can set a schedule with the Calendar tool. What’s hard to do is to limit the total time on a web site without a schedule. Because of background network activities, it is hard to figure out exactly how long a user has been active on a certain web site. Therefore, the router does not support setting a total time limit for a web site without creating a schedule.
